I'm in a couple of interesting shows over the next few days that I thought I'd share with you.

First, today, Saturday Feb 11, I'm heading to Ashwagh Hall in East Hampton for the opening of

In other news... I've been painting from the model up at Stony Brook University on Sunday mornings. Nice to do and nice folks to do it with also. I've been using Acrylics instrad of Oils. I have to say I like them. I'm curious to see how far I can take them.

Oh, I have a new studio assistant. Art Tube D2.

In other news, I was very honored and pleased to have received The Award of Excellence from The Art League's 55th Exhibition of Long Island Artists for my metal butcher tray painting "Mini Dog".

Whew... there has been a lot going on in terms of getting out there and painting...
I'll sign off for now and look forward to seeing you hopefully at the Brushworks opening, or some of the other art events happening over the summer.

Hello again.

I'm in some shows that you might enjoy seeing. Here's the rundown:

The BIG SHOW 6 is a fun show. It's the third year I've been asked to participate and I really enjoy it. I like the idea and the folks over at The Silas Marder Gallery very much - even the gallery building itself is cool. The concept of the show is that 53 artists must each submit works on three 8" x 10" canvases.
It's very interesting to see the wide variety of ideas that these artists have submitted.

In fact, save July 29th. I'm in a three person show and that's the opening night. I will post plenty more on this soon. Right now I've got to start making some paintings.

In addition to getting work done and delivered, I've managed to go to some nice openings recently.

Yesterday Sue and I went to the opening of Mike Paraskevas in Southampton featuring his fine art and illustration.

Another clever artist whose work I always enjoy.

We also stopped by The Grenning Gallery for the opening of their Studio Tour 2011: Group Show.

I enjoy seeing the work there as I feel a kinship with the artists whose Plein Air works are on display there.

Like me, they have worked in different weather conditions and removed a variety of insects from wet canvases.

It's a unique club to be in and I have a lot of respect for artists who make it a point to paint from nature.

And a few weeks ago I visited The Gerald Peters Gallery in NYC to see the show called Hampton Artists: Then and Now.

The place was packed. Luckily I got there early enough to get a good look at the art. It was interesting stuff. I kept wondering how my efforts would one day stack up next to the works of these artists. Time will tell I guess.

Now I've got work to do.

Stan Brodsky Art Talk, My class at Gallery North and revving up the creative motor

I'm a big fan of Artist Stan Brodsky. I took his painting class several times in a row (as do a lot of his students) and he really helped me open up and try new things. He teaches over at The Art League of Long Island. I urge any of you artists who are looking to get to a new creative level to look for Stan. Here he is giving a talk last weekend to a packed house at Gallery North.

Both Stan and Dan Welden (another artist/teacher who amazes me) were kind enough to write letters of recommendation for my application to participate in the Edward Albee Foundation Residency program. Who knows if I'll get in or not, but that was really nice of those guys to help me apply for it.

By the way, Dan teaches a Solar Plate Etching Class that is really great. In fact, I think he's doing one for Gallery North this weekend.

And speaking of teaching, I am teaching a 6 week Oil Painting for Beginners and Intermediates at Gallery North this spring.
The class is on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and starts on April 23.

And now that the weather is warmer I am really looking forward to trying something new, something bold and fresh. I need to be focused, productive and lucky. Which I think I can do.

This past weekend was fun. The two shows I participated in had good turnouts.
There was a lot of driving tho' running out to East Hampton to drop off the work, then doing it again the next day for the opening and then the following day to pick up my work. I wish I had sold something at Ashawagh Hall, but that's alright. I was happy that Karyn Mannix was kind enough to include me. I hope there will be more opportunities to work with her in the future.
The second show was at dear old RIPE Art in Greenlawn. I'm a big fan of that gallery and they have been very kind to me.

Pickin it up, Puttin it down

This is a bit of my home made music, using my groovy multi-track recording studio and making a little movie with a bunch of my old cartoons and drawings. It's fun to make this stuff.
Now tomorrow morning, I am fixin to go paint up at the Fine Arts building at Stony Brook University. There's a model and a bunch dedicated artists show up each weekend to sketch and paint. I think it will do me some good to get the paint flowing again and get back to making the world a better place by creating some beautiful art. At least that's the plan!

I've got to head out now and go to an Artists Advisory Panel for Gallery North. I believe my new and improved site (which I thought was done yesterday) is looking pretty solid right now. Let me know if you see something funny that needs fixing.
I must say I have had enough web stuff for a long time - but it does feel good to have a fresh look for 2011.

New and improved website - Finally!

Blog - Meister

This cold weather has kept me from the easel, but not from updating my new and improved website. (which was really long overdue)
And so now that that chore is done I look forward to making new things, trying new things and developing as an artist.

I'm even going to learn about this blogging thing.

And for my first official blog of 2011, I will share with you a film I'm enjoying that I ordered through Netflix. It's called "The Run Up" and here's a blurb on what it's about:

Twenty-six of today's most important painters, photographers and street artists offer insight into their lives and work in this collection of one-on-one interviews conducted by filmmakers Shaun Roberts and Joey Garfield. Artists such as Herbert Baglione, Estevan Oriol, Cody Hudson, Chris Pastras, Mister Cartoon, Doze Green and Mark Bode are filmed in their own environments against a soundtrack that includes Aesop Rock, Ben Sandoval and more.

I'm really enjoying it. I recommend it if you think you enjoy looking at the work of street artists.
